How do I do a manual reset on my phone?

For the Original Firefly Phone:

A manual reset is a process that allows the user to access the "guts" of the phone, to depress a "reset" button that will in essence "reboot" the phone if it should "freeze" or "lock up".

Firefly phones rarely "freeze" or "lock up". Most "freezes" we have seen are due to customers turning on the handset and not allowing it time to find the network, getting frustrated and begin pushing buttons, confusing the phone.  Once you turn the phone on, wait to see the network signal on the phone display. It's a little square clock in the middle of the display. Once you see this disappear (takes about 30 seconds) you know you are connected to the network and are ready to go.

But, in case your phone does freeze up, first try to power cycle the phone, by shutting it off, then turning it back on, wait for the network connection to appear, then try your phone.  If that is unsuccessful, do a manual reset.

Here's how to manually reset your Firefly phone:

1. First, push up on the release button at the very top of the back of your Firefly phone. Then, starting at the top, gently pull off the rear cover.

2. Next, remove the phone's front cover. To do that, just press on the “Mom” and “Dad” keys at the same time and then gently lift the front cover off.

3. After both covers are off, look at the front of the Firefly phone. Just to the left of where the 5 keys of the keypad would be, you'll see a little button. That's the manual reset button.

4. Use your fingernail to press the reset button. Your Firefly phone should turn off and reset itself right away.

5. Now, just put the front and back covers back on. You might have to adjust the front cover a little so it fits over the key pad.

6. Just press the red END button to re-start your Firefly phone. Everything should be unfrozen and ready to go.

For the glowPhone and the flyPhone:

If the glowPhone or the flyPhone should ever "freeze" or "lock up", you can reset the phone by simply removing the back cover, lifting out the battery, replacing it and the cover.

NOTE: Removing the battery will require you to reset the phone's time and date information. This is important if you use the flyPhone's event calendar and/or alarms.
